Guide

Tick is one of the best area controllers in the game and one of the more challenging brawlers to play. In this guide, I'll teach you how to play tick and his builds.HOW TO PLAY TICK1. Dont aim directly at enemies. Instead, throw the mines in where enemies will move. This is one of the more challenging aspects of tick because of the delayed activation of his mines, so you need to predict where the enemy will go.
For example:
-throw his mines behind cover
-cut off enemies' escape routes
-deny objectives like the gem mine or hot zonesTick becomes super oppressive when enemies feel trapped2. Keep distance at all times. Tick has the lowest HP out of all the brawlers, so if you get caught out or if you're too aggressive, you're assassin food. The best way to ensure your survival is to always place yourself behind walls. Or if possible, you stay close to teammates that can protect you(like Buster). And also keep an escape lane open and save your gadget for emergencies3. Learn how to utilize Tick's super. It's not just used to finish off low health brawlers. It's also good for creating pressure. The majority of his super's value is from disruption, not damage. Even when it gets destroyed without killing someone, it's still a positive thing because you got the enemy to retreat and create pressure for them.
Other uses for Ticks super:
-stopping healing
-scouting bushesBUILDSSTAR POWERS
1. Well Oiled
-Recovers health faster when he isn't attacking or being attacked. Tick's best star power. Because you are constantly applying pressure, it can take forever for Tick to heal. Well oiled let's him recover health much faster, which means more uptime, safer lane control and less downtime hiding. 2. Automa-Tick Reload
-Increases Tick's reload speed. A good star power if you want to spam more mines or you're playing in an extremely closed mapAutoma-Tick Reload is good, but if you're just starting to play Tick, Well Oiled is usually better.GADGETS
1. Last Hurrah
-Gives a temporary shield that reduces damage, and knocks back enemies upon detonation. Tick's best overall gadget since it gives him protection, and he needs it badly bc of his low health pool. The knockback is also mechanically useful bc it can be used to disrupt enemies like a Frank about to super or to knock out a ball from an enemy in Brawl Ball.2. Mine Mania
-places 6 mines instead of 3. A good gadget if you want more area denial or if you're playing Hot Zone. Either gadgets are viable depending on what you want. Survival? Use Last Hurrah. More area coverage? Use Mine ManiaGEARS
Best Combo:
Thicc Head + ShieldThicc Head- Increases Tick's super head's health. Makes it tankier and harder to destroy. Good against marksmen and mid-range brawlers Shield- Again, because Tick has the lowest health, he badly needs protection, so this gadget covers that aspect. The other Gears are more niche:
Gadget Charge-good if assassin's are everywhere
Vision-Can use on Tick for bush-heavy maps
Damage- I'd say the worst gadget to use on Tick, since he doesn't really like to be low health(that's just asking to be jumped on by an Edgar).OVERALLStandard Reliable Build:
SP: Well Oiled
Gadget: Last Hurrah
Gear: Thicc Head + ShieldAggressive Controller Build:
SP: Automa-Tick Reload
Gadget: Mine Mania
Gear: Thicc Head + Shield SummaryTo be good at Tick:
-predict enemy movement
-abuse walls
-apply constant pressure
-survival first, damage second

Game Modes

Knockout

Knockout

Tick's best mode. His zoning, long range, and ability to stall pushes are insanely valuable because every death matters in this mode. Especially good on wall-heavy knockout maps.

Gem Grab

Gem Grab

Tick can lock down mid and make gem control hard for enemies.

Hot Zone

Hot Zone

Since Hot Zones are a fixed area, Tick can deny the enemy into the zone from his mines

Works Well With

Shelly

Shelly

Shelly or any other anti-assassins work well with Tick bc he loves teammates that scare off divers

8-Bit

8-Bit

8-bit's super can buff Tick's damage

Bo

Bo

His utility and zoning with his mines pair well with Tick's control style. His Super Totem is also good so Tick can spam supers faster

Poco

Poco

Poco or any other healer work well with Tick for healing(especially if you're running the aggressive controller build)
