Sonic Blitz: A First Look

Sonic Blitz is a new multiplayer mobile card game developed by Rovio and Sega, currently soft-launched in the Philippines and Brazil. It combines elements from other card battlers like Marvel Snap and Pokémon TCG to create an iconic rendition using Sonic characters.

When first picking up the game, you’ll start a tutorial to learn a few of the card abilities and game mechanics. Each card has different Energy costs, Attack, Health, and abilities.

You’ll use cards to defend, attack, play tricks, and prepare for big moves. Battling is simple and straightforward, allowing for quick 8-turn games with enough strategy to keep you starting new matches.

To play, you’ll use a deck of 12 cards that get randomly drawn into your hand. Then, you can place cards on the game board, consisting of two lanes. To attack or defend, you activate a Dash for the round on one of the two lanes.

If your opponent Dashes in the same lane, your cards will go head-to-head. If they didn’t, your cards will deal a direct hit to their overall health. The first player to reach 0 health loses the match.

Collecting and Upgrading Cards

Sonic Blitz Missions

There are a lot of different ways to obtain resources to collect and upgrade cards. Sonic Blitz has Missions, Events, Gifts, the Ring Journey, and the Blitz Pass, which reward Gold, Star Coins, Red Star Rings, and card Booster Packs.

To level up a card, you need to obtain enough cards needed for the next level, then spend Gold and Star Coins to move it up the progress bar. Moving up a card’s level progress will unlock Rings, Packs, and Stars for the card. Having higher-starred cards will sometimes give them better stats or a new ability.

Building a Deck

With only 8 rounds in a match, it’s important to have a good variety of cards to choose from. Each round gives you Energy based on the round you are on. So if it is round 6, you have 6 Energy to use on cards.

Depending on the scenario, you could go all-in on one 6-cost card or divide it between multiple cards. When building a deck, it can be smart to have more cheap cards to play with so you don’t waste Energy.

Here on NOFF.GG, we have a dedicated page to view all the Sonic Blitz cards, with their stats and abilities. Learning each card will help you develop strategies for your deck and defend during a match.
