Guide
Mortis is one of the trickiest but most rewarding brawlers to master in Brawl Stars. He’s a mythic brawler known for his fast movement speed, unique dash-based attack, and his assassin playstyle. Instead of shooting projectiles like most brawlers, Mortis dashes forward with each attack, dealing damage in the direction he moves. This makes him incredibly mobile and great for dodging, juking, and engaging quickly — but it also means you have to get dangerously close to enemies to deal damage. He’s not meant to go head-to-head with tanks or high-DPS brawlers, but instead to pick off low-health targets, disrupt enemy positions, and make quick escapes after assassinations. Playing Mortis is all about timing, precision, and knowing when to go in — and more importantly, when not to.His super, Life Blood, sends out a wave of bats that deal damage and heal him for the same amount. It’s amazing for turning fights around and chaining kills, especially after diving in. A skilled Mortis player will use his basic attacks to charge up the super, then use it to finish off an enemy while healing just enough to survive and dash out again. His reload speed is one of the slowest in the game, so spamming dashes without a plan will leave you helpless. You always want to enter fights with a full dash bar and an escape route in mind. When it comes to builds, Coiled Snake is Mortis’s best star power in most modes. It gives you a longer dash range after 2 seconds of not using an attack, letting you start fights from farther away or escape easier. It’s especially useful in Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, and Hot Zone. Creepy Harvest is also strong, especially in Solo Showdown or modes where you’re going for a lot of kills — it heals you for 1800 HP after every kill, letting you chain fights and stay alive longer. For gadgets, Combo Spinner is usually the go-to. It deals quick area damage and helps you finish off low-health brawlers fast. Survival Shovel can be great too, as it speeds up your painfully slow reload speed for a short time, making you way more threatening during aggressive plays. Gear-wise, the Damage Gear helps Mortis finish enemies more reliably when under half health, and Speed Gear makes him even harder to hit when moving through bushes — perfect for flanking and sneaking up on people.Mortis shines in Brawl Ball where his mobility lets him steal, dribble, or score goals with flashy plays. He can dash through defenders, steal the ball mid-fight, and score before they react. He’s also solid in Gem Grab, where he can pressure the enemy gem carrier and create chaos. In Solo Showdown, Mortis can work well if you play smart and avoid tanks early, using Creepy Harvest to heal after each kill and snowball your way to the top. But be careful — Mortis struggles against long-range brawlers like Piper or Bea, tanks with stuns like Frank, and anyone with burst damage or high health. He’s all about pick timing, smart dodging, and calculated aggression.Overall, Mortis is a high-skill brawler that’s not easy to pick up, but once you master his movement, spacing, and kill timing, you can completely dominate games and make huge plays that other brawlers can’t. If you love fast-paced, mechanical gameplay and clutch moments, Mortis is totally worth learning — just expect a bit of a learning curve at first. Keep practicing those dashes, master Coiled Snake spacing, and learn to predict enemy movement, and you’ll start popping off in no time.
Game Modes
Brawl Ball
Mortis is one of the strongest brawlers in Brawl Ball because of his unique mobility and ability to make fast, game-changing plays. His dash attack lets him move quicker than almost anyone else, giving him a huge advantage when it comes to ball control. He can get to the ball first, escape defenders, or reposition instantly. One of Mortis’s most iconic strengths is his ability to steal goals out of nowhere — he can dash in, grab the ball mid-fight, and score before the enemy team has time to react. Skilled players can even pull off advanced plays like dash-dribbling the ball past enemies or using the ball to cancel enemy supers. His star power, Coiled Snake, increases his dash range after a short delay, letting him make long-distance plays or chase down opponents with ease.Another reason Mortis dominates in Brawl Ball is his ability to disrupt enemy positioning. He can dash into the backline, forcing enemies to scatter or fall back, which gives your team space to move forward. He’s also great at cleaning up kills — if a teammate weakens an opponent, Mortis can finish them quickly and clear the path to the goal. His super, Life Blood, is perfect for clutch moments since it damages enemies and heals him for the same amount, letting him survive risky pushes or turn a fight around at the last second. He’s also a strong counter to fragile defenders like Piper, Brock, or Bea, who can’t handle his fast movement and close-range pressure. With the right timing, Mortis becomes a constant threat on the field — scoring, stealing, and disrupting with unmatched style.
Works Well With
Rico
Mortis and Rico make a surprisingly effective duo in many game modes, especially Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, and Hot Zone. The main reason they work well together is because their strengths balance each other’s weaknesses. Rico is a long-range brawler who’s great at controlling lanes and chipping away at enemies from a distance, while Mortis is a close-range assassin who excels at diving in and finishing off low-health brawlers. Rico can soften up enemies and force them to retreat or reposition, creating perfect opportunities for Mortis to dash in, clean up, and escape before taking too much damage.Rico also helps cover one of Mortis’s biggest weaknesses: ranged enemies. Mortis struggles against brawlers like Bea, who can keep him at a distance, but Rico can keep pressure on those types of brawlers, making it easier for Mortis to find an opening and close the gap. On maps with lots of walls, Rico becomes even more valuable, using bounce shots to zone out enemies and trap them, while Mortis uses his mobility to flank and finish them off. In Brawl Ball especially, Rico can help chip away at defenders or pass the ball through walls, setting up Mortis to dash in, steal the ball, and score. Together, they make a high-skill, high-reward combo that can dominate when played with good coordination.
Bea
Mortis and Bea make a really strong team because their playstyles complement each other perfectly. Bea is great at dealing high damage from a distance and can control the battlefield by keeping enemies at bay with her precise shots. Her super can stun opponents, making them easy targets. Meanwhile, Mortis is a fast and sneaky assassin who excels at dashing in and finishing off enemies once they’re weakened or stunned. When Bea softens up enemies or locks them down with her stun, Mortis can quickly close the gap and eliminate them before they can react. This combo works especially well in modes like Brawl Ball, where Bea chips away at defenders while Mortis steals or scores goals by dashing through openings. Together, they create a balance of strong ranged pressure and deadly close-range attacks that make it hard for the enemy team to stay safe.
