Guide

Edgar is a brawler that many people assume is always agro, but when they see that, they normally see the Edgar player jumping on brawlers that he shouldn't. Like Shelly. In reality, he can be agro, but he also needs to be able to survive. This build focuses on survivability, which is essential in all gamemodes, and has reasoning behind all of it's parts.Gadget: In 99% of instances, Let's Fly is better than Hardcore. While Hardcore is better on some maps, like Sneaky Fields, those circumstances are rare. Let's Fly should always be used at the start of a match, and should only be pressed if you need your super quickly, and have absolutely no charge. Hardcore for the 1% use case should be used when you are on low health, mainly when you are attacking, and absolutely not before you jump. This allows Edgar to use his main mechanic, his life steal, to full effect, as when he has that shield up, he can gain his actual health back during this time.Star Power: Fisticuffs. Stop with saying that Hard Landing is better, it is only useful in Heist. Any matchup that benefits from Hard Landing more, is a matchup he already wins. This 25% extra healing makes his base kit healing go from 35% to 43.75% of the damage he deals. This matters a lot for one of his normally weaker matchups, Tanks, where it normally is a loss for Edgar by a bit, to even or winning. He deals 1080 damage per hit, and deals 2 hits per attack. His healing with this Star Power then goes from 378 HP (756 HP per attack due to the double hit), to 472 HP (944 HP per attack due to the double hit). This difference changes a lot of interactions. Ash for example goes from losing, with either no Star Power OR Hard Landing, to winning with Fisticuffs, all due to survivability. The only reason why Hard Landing is better in Heist is due to the Heist safe not giving HP to Edgar on attack, and the goal is pure damage. Even still, pros use Fisticuffs in Heist specifically if Edgar needs to defend.Gears: The gear that must be equipped at all times is the Super Charge gear. The gadget charge gear is a trap if you think about replacing this gear. Sure the gadget is a free super, but there are somethings that it doesn't do well. First off, the Super Charge gear makes you wait less time after the gadget for your super by about two seconds. This may not seem like a long time, but every two seconds adds up, especially in Brawl. It also saves time per super by three seconds, makes his Hypercharge charge in 7.5 less seconds. Again, it adds up. Each attack also adds to this, and in the end, it is a lot faster, and generally easier, to get your next super. The next best gear for Edgar is the Damage gear. This is because it plays into his survivability. Something a lot of people get wrong is that the healing Edgar gets is a constant, when in reality, it is a percentage of his damage. If you increase his damage, you increase his healing. This in turn, increases his survivability. Shield is very overrated. The reason for this is that while it does benefit some tankier brawlers even, they regen their health normally almost 100% of the time. Edgar doesn't. He mainly heals by attacking, and the shield HP cannot be regened by normal methods, and the only way to get that shield HP back is to wait. Very useful on snipers, as they cannot get hit easily at a distance, starts to decline the shorter range you get. While it is good in some scenarios, in general the shield is purely cosmetic, and will only be there on respawn. Speed can be swapped for Damage on bushier maps, as speed is a good way to get close without using your super. The only other gear I would swap with damage is the Gadget Charge gear, but that has to be in very specific scenarios, where you are going to use the gear four times.
