Mortis’ best build is the Survival Shovel Gadget and the Coiled Snake Star Power. The Survival Shovel Gadget allows you to reload faster for 4 seconds, giving the opportunity to inflict more damage when you rush into an opponent. The Coiled Snake Star Power is the best one, because you’ll need less time to have your longer dash. You will now have more movement possibilities, and you will be able to make a deadly ambush quicker. Finally, the best gears are the Shield Gear and the Bat Storm Gear as it’s overpowered with his hypercharge.

Survival Shovel
Mortis reloads faster for 4 seconds.

Coiled Snake
Mortis gains his longer dash 2 seconds faster.

Shield
Gain extra 900 Health as a consumable Shield. The shield regenerates in 10 seconds, when at full health.

Bat Storm
The speed of bats increased by 50%.
Guide
I am going to assume you have a level 9 mortis in most sections and I’ll talk about star power a little bit later. If you have a mortis below level 9 I seriously think you should consider just not playing him until he is level 9, as mortis is a very burst based character and the game is balanced with equal level characters in mind. A spike getting away with 20 health because you’re level 8 is just as bad as a spike getting away with 1120 health because you missed a dash, even though you might be skilled. So first off, don’t use your dash if you don’t need to. It’s the biggest problem I see when I’m spectating other mortis. You might think you need to, but 99% of the time I see someone dash it’s unnecessary. One or 2 dashes at the start of a match to gain a ground advantage and no more. Using all 3 will screw you over pretty fast as you will be powerless when the enemy see you. Some people think you should be dashing to get places faster, and while this seems harmless you never know when you will need to spam 3 dashes to run away/burst down a squishy, especially in showdown.Second, probably the most important tip in SnG I can give you is to never carry gems with mortis. Avoid them like they are Bo’s mines. Having gems will cramp your playstyle so badly your teammates may as well be fighting a 2v3. However, if your teammate dies with 10 gems in spawn and the enemy have none you can grab the gems and just run away. Never try to pull any fancy 💩 when you have gems, it’s not worth it. As a general tip, you should try to never pick up gems unless you’re 100% sure it will win the game (meaning your teammates won’t die or the enemy won’t stop the counter somehow). The only exception to this rule is if the enemy comp is like darryl shelley and bull, but then if your playing mortis that’s pretty much an immediate loss unless your teammates carry/counter big time.Third, you want to “measure” out your opponents health. Spike, crow, rico, piper, if you go on the same side as them you can autoaim 3 dashes into them and kill them before they can react. Really good for establishing point control. The numbers you need to remember are 3360 (3 hits to kill) and 4480 (4 hits to kill). The rest of the brawlers you should not be trying to burst down most of the time, but if you have some cover (showdown box, friendly turret/bear, even your teams frank or a tnt box if those still exist etc) you can really quickly dash to an enemy and dash back for a free 2240 damage and 2 hits of super charge. Most enemies will not be able to react in time especially if they are a shotgunner (last thing they expect is a mortis to be aggressive with them) and even if they are you won’t be taking more than 2800 damage worst case scenario (point blank bull shot). If a shelley has super DO NOT DO THISOn this topic I’ve added some more helpful measurements and matchups I’ve made over my experience at the end of this post.Fourth we will talk about autoaim. Most people tell you to never ever ever use autoaim with mortis. This is not quite right. Autoaim will always be fastest at bursting someone down because it has a lower chance of missing and it’s faster to tap than it is to swipe. Here are my autoaim rules, but you might want to be stricter at first while you are practising mortis:Never use autoaim if there is more than one target anywhere nearby (about 1/3rd the length of the playing area should do it)
Never use autoaim with mortis super, always line it up and try to get multiple hits.
Never use autoaim if someone looks like they might be out of dash range
Never use autoaim when engaging with an enemy mortis. After you get first hit with manual using auto after that is fine.
Never use autoaim when enemies are against a wall, especially a corner. There is a long standing bug where if mortis dashes into a wall wrong he will get stuck in his attack animation and be literally frozen in the wall. This is very bad.
Fifth, be aggressive. There is no game mode (except brawl ball but I don’t really play him there) where you should not be playing aggressive. Even if you’re going to die, try dashing behind the enemy into their spawn to heal. This forces the enemy to make a decision, either leave you there and then you can play hell with them when you’re healed up (plus you probably will get super next engagement) or try to chase you and finish you off. If you know how to dodge, this will require 2 enemies, which is a tremendous waste of the enemies time and will allow your teammates to push into the mine or whatever important area exists. If the enemy is in their spawn, all the time they spend there they may as well be dead.Sixth, never ever stop moving. That’s pretty much all there is to that, but you should never ever be still. Even when you’re camping in a bush. It helps with unpredictability and dodging, and you will find you’ll end up being a more effective mortis and get a lot more done. It’s faster to dodge when you already have your finger on the joystick.Seventh let’s talk about game modes. I really like him in SnG because shelley isn’t great there and he counters a lot of squishies that are played there. You will need your teammates to take out that pam turret and to carry gems though. In showdown, I like him. He is alright. For thrower teams walk right up to them and stand next to them and slowly dash them down one at a time. This will break up the team, let you escape, and probably give you a bunch of elixr. If there are no thrower teams you will need to rush elixr early game or else you are screwed. In heist, don’t play him. Once I was bored so I got a working mortis comp in heist but like don’t do that it won’t work against players of equal skill level most of the time, except by virtue of taking them so much by surprise they drop their phone. Or maybe you get lucky and the enemy is dynamike rico barley... in terms of bounty I really really hate him there. Worst nightmare because the better you’re playing with him the more careful you need to play. We’ve all been there when you set up a spawntrap and are smashing the enemy team, but if you do that with mortis and can’t get away before that brock spawns in autoaim range... that’s a big oof worth 7 stars. I’m not going to comment on brawl ball but my view on brawl ball mortis is that its literally just letting your teammates distract the enemy so you can dash the ball past their backline. Skilled mortis require their team to do less distraction, while 💩 mortis require their team to get a teamkill before that ball goes in the net. In terms of mods, robo boss is C tier, energy drink is B tier, life leech is F tier (no self sustain and you need to be point blank to get health back and mortis is balanced to engage at 5000 hp, something that is never guaranteed in LL) and meteor shower is B tier. None of these mods are good for mortis in particular but for the most part he can work around them. Finally, let’s talk about maps. What you are looking for is some bushes and some walls, with a decent amount of dodging room. The line I find drawn between a mortis going from good to god is when they know how to dodge really well. This is not just mechanical skill but also positioning, (ie don’t walk in that 3 tile gap because the brock will have an easy time hitting you there, rather you should stay in LoS of the piper and brock and dodge them because you’re good enough to do that) my favourite mortis maps for SnG are Deep Hollows and hard rock mine. I will never play him on crystal cavern. For showdown I like skull creek and Death Valley, hot maze is meh, FoF and cavern churn are risky but winnable, never play him on any of the other ones. For bounty pretty much any of the closer ranged maps but NOT snake prairie. For heist..... uhh kaboom canyon is where I played that comp that got a viable winrate but probably nowhere else (rivers are the worst, the comp was dynamike colt mortis btw idea was mortis makes enemy run after him while colt and mike wailed on safe, since pam got buffed to highest dps you might want to swap colt for pam, you need to win first push or game will be very hard to win unless mortis can get last hit on safe or something)That’s about it, hope that helps lol, this doesn’t cover everything and a lot of the tips here are general but mortis play is very much about the specifics but I have not seen you play so I can’t comment about anything there. Good luck! Here is my matchup guide:Crow: always assume 4 hits to kill if he has star power. He is the biggest pain to you as if he is nearby you need to assume this about anyone you can usually 3 tap.Barley: same sort of thing as crow when he has star power, except if he supers while point blank to you he is stuck doing that for long enough that you can 3 tap him. He cannot use his main attack to heal during the super animation which.Spike: if he is at full health on his super it’s 4 hits if you get them all out instantly. Mortis is a burst though, and so if you have 2 or less dashes just run away from a spike with super. You want to engage spike when you have super and 3 dashes at point blank, it helps if you can dodge some shots beforehand.Tara: if tara uses a shot and does not get her full damage cap you can walk up to her and span autoaim. You will kill her every time unless you miss, she gets super, or she gets help. Generally try not to use super on a taraDynamike: you probably know it’s 4 hits to kill him, but because I’m doing individual matchups I may as well give this tip here. Walk right up close to him and it will be harder for him to aim. Never use your super on him unless you really need the burst (he has 10 gems and games bout to end or whatever)Primo/frank: primo and frank take 8 hits IIRC, but the cool thing is you can easily dodge their damage if you get practised enough. For frank, you want to be absolutely point blank. Try to manually dodge his attacks but you can dash if you need to, just make sure you dash through the frank and not away. For primo you also want to be point blank. When he attacks walk in the opposite direction he is moving, ie he is moving down and attack, immediately walk up and you will probably only be hit by one of his 4 punches. A good thing with primo is that your dash range is larger than his punch range so it’s very very safe to go point blank to a primo, also your speed is higher. If you have shot delay don’t go to a primo ever because you will stop moving after every dash for a short amount of time while your ping catches up.Shelley/bull: if shelley has super avoid her like the plague. No exceptions. Ever. For bull and shelley you can actually secure neat kills in showdown by dashing them to death through boxes. Most of them see a mortis and think they are invincible to him, take advantage of that. Remember that if shelley or bull are 3 hits to kill or lower (3360>) you can secure a kill, but it’s best to do it when you have super or are 1 hit from getting it. The combo is dash, super, dash. This way you will have 2 (or more) hits toward charging your next super instead of 1 and that’s another bonus. Don’t do this if you have any shot delay either. Darryl is a bit more unpredictable but it’s also generally sort of safe because his firing happens slower than shelley.Brock: brock is a hidden nightmare for mortis, he has a burst potential of 4620 at his fingertips and since mortis plays within bricks autoaim range you need to be careful. 4 shots from a brock and you’re done, if you end up absolutely point blank to him you will win the reload battle but it will be very close as your reload is the same IIRC, only difference is brock stops reloading when he is in shot animation and mortis doesn’t.I just want to mention mortis balance changes real fast at the end of this. I think he needs a very slight buff (0.25s~ faster) to reload speed because it wouldn’t make him op at high level but would make him a good amount more forgiving for newer players. Notice everything in this ~top player~ post is based on burst damage because sustained fights are not something mortis is good at, reload buff will let him get away better for newer player but people following this guide wouldn’t be able to even use the buff if they play right.
