Kenji is a very versatile assasin with speed and very good survivability with the passive life steal ability.
Overall build: you can switch out the gadget if you want both are good. Health gear can be replaced with damage but health gear works overall better as he can make more opportunities to go in and out and heal back faster.
Tips for playing Kenji: to play Kenji well you will need to always keep watch of your attack and always check which stage it is on. My preference is to have it always on dash first as this will allow you to run and engage faster but if dancing around a wall use the slash to wall peak as this possible as kenji’s attack is in a cone shape. When using the healing gadget you can see the recent damage you took by looking at your heal and actually see the red section. This is very useful to know when to gadget to get most value from the healing. Try to use the dash from kenji’s attack to dodge shots to the side then use your slash that has more damage to attack them. This will conserve your health and also will make it more stressful and harder to hit you. This also will allow you to make more plays against shotgunners as this will stop their insane close range damage output. Using the dash gadget lasts 3 seconds so you will need to quickly get close or get away, make sure you count your enemies ammo and go in when they have around 1 left.
Tips to counter other kenji’s while playing Kenji: to counter Kenji with Kenji you will need to try to force your opponent to super first. Doing this will allow you to super when they are about to hit you with super and this will cause the opposing Kenji to go back to his original spot and which you have supered before and therefore you will hit them with your super but they didn’t hit you.
Tips to counter Kenji: if playing anyone with a stun you can try to aim the stun at the feet of the place Kenji supered e.g. dyna gadget. This will cause when they get back to not be able to doge it and will allow you to secure a kill. When fighting Kenji always be careful as he has lots of movement and can also do decent damage. Kenji also has very fast reload speed allowing him to move more and attack more than Mortis or mico who both are other movement based assassins. This makes his very dangerous so therefore try to stay at range but if you are a close range brawler you can try to just avoid him or just try to bait them to dash into you. CHASING A KENJI IS A VERY BAD IDEA ID YOU ARE A CLOSE RANGE BRAWLER, this is because of the fact he can dash and attack which would end up being you low and he also can heal by attacking you and then you can’t run because he has dashes so always be very very caution around him.
Gamemodes: Kenji is a very solid brawler and good in many gamemodes but I recommend pushing him in showdown as he has very good box opening skills and fast reload. Also he is very good in brawl ball with his dash gadget. He is also good for duels and 1v1 situations and also charges super pretty well for the next brawler in duels.
Comps: Kenji is very very very good with kit as kit provides artillery and can heal Kenji crazy amounts especially with kenji’s original healing factor.
