Guide
Welcome, fellow rumblers! This is Thominator, bringing you my absolute favorite Arthas build – a setup I’ve been refining for a long time and finally decided to share with the community. It focuses on control, survivability, and punishing overextending opponents.
---
Hero: Arthas – Talent: Purgatory
The heart of this build is the Purgatory talent, which grants Arthas 5 seconds of invulnerability upon death. This makes him incredibly resilient in key fights and allows for devastating comeback moments when the enemy thinks they’ve got the upper hand. Forget Death Grip – while it looks flashy, Purgatory wins games.

Core Strategy
Avoid AoE Damage:
Use Light Ring Rod to minimize magical AoE threats. This is key for keeping your core units alive longer, especially the Ancient of War.
Smart Tree Usage (Ancient of War):
Only play Ancient of War if the enemy has AoE spells. If they don’t, this unit becomes a game-changer that’s very hard to remove. If they do have AoE, don’t waste resources until you’re sure it can survive or be supported.
Scout Early:
Watch for the enemy’s AoE capabilities right at the beginning. If they freeze or blast your units early on, you’ll know to play around it. Timing is crucial.
Control the Board:
This build relies on holding ground, not rushing. You want to outlast, outtrade, and control the battlefield, especially around key gold nodes and lanes.
Gold Advantage:
Secure gold early and often. This allows you to cycle your spells and units effectively, forcing your opponent to react instead of initiating.
Support the Tree:
If you get Ancient of War on the field, support it like it’s your carry. Keep pressure off it and use spells or cheap units to soak damage if needed.

Match Example – Arthas Mirror
In a typical Arthas vs. Arthas match, it becomes a chess game of control spells. If they freeze you, don’t panic – freeze them back. It’s a back-and-forth dance where Purgatory often becomes the deciding factor.
In the match shown in the video, I managed to:
Identify their AoE spell early
Delay tree usage until safe
Win lane control through superior
timing
That final push with Ancient of War led to a win because it survived long enough to become unstoppable – helped by smart gold use and spell rotation.

Closing Thoughts
This build may take a few games to master, but once you get the hang of timing Purgatory and understanding AoE threats, you’ll dominate in control-based matchups. It’s not a rush deck – it’s a “wait, counter, destroy” build.
Thanks for checking it out – and if you try it, let me know how it goes. Good luck, and may the Lich King rise again!
